What people want from their leaders
Leaders that will serve the people. Leaders that will listen to the people. Leaders that will be honest and transparent. Leaders with integrity. Leaders that value their legacy-what people will always remember you for? Leaders that value the people. Leaders that respects the people. Leaders that treat everyone equally. Leaders that is interested in the happiness of his/her people. Leaders that can go all out for the people. Leaders that respects the will of the people. Leaders that will not forget the people. We need selfless leaders. We need leaders with past records of achievements. Leaders that understands the situation of the people. Leaders that will stand for the people. Leaders that will speak for and represent the people. We need leaders that will do the talk not only talk. We need leaders that can create opportunities. Leaders that will provide basic needs for the people.
The biggest question is; Is it possible to have these kinds of leaders in our world today? Lately we have seen leaders boldly lie to the people. We have seen leaders who only care about their pocket. We have seen leaders who cover up for their family. We have seen leaders who have stolen the wealth of the nation for their personal use. We have seen leaders that imported killers to commit genocide. We have seen leaders who use the military/uniform men to kill and molest the people. Leader that embezzle the allocation meant for road construction, hospitals, electricity etc. We have seen leaders who enjoy seeing the people suffer. We have seen leaders that makes life more difficult for the people.
Leadership has always been the problem of the world. Recently the situation is getting worse especially in Africa where there is recycled leadership system-old men above 80 continue to hang onto power even when there are not capable example president of Cameroon age 88 years ruled for 39 years and counting, what about Nigeria, Uganda etc. When you visit Africa you will wipe for the people. The suffer, poverty and hunger is on the highest level yet Africa is the motherland where all the resources and wealth of the world comes from. Though the corrupt system of the world started in the west but Africa has taken it to the highest level. Recycled leaders have refused to work for the people. These corrupt leaders are working for their pockets. They are experts in stealing the wealth of the people. They make life more difficult for the people as they are no good roads, hospitals, electricity, clean water etc.
We cannot forget about the role of religious leaders in helping the political leaders to continue to keep the people perpetually poor, helpless and terrible situations. As the political leaders refuse to do their job, the religious leaders will use the name of God to calm down the people citing demons or ancestral curses. One could have been thinking, that you can get justice in the church/mosque but this is where injustice starts from. We have seen religious leaders destroyed many homes, marriages and family. We have seen religious leaders involve in cases that is unbelievable- the case of religious leaders raping children, women and sleeping with married women is alarming. We have seen religious leaders advise women and men to leave their husband and wife simultaneously. They have destroyed lives, scatter marriages and families. Religious leaders have also destroyed the destiny of young people by brainwashing them to pray and fast while waiting for jobs. We have seen many religious leaders preached about tithes and offerings as the only way to please God or receive something from God.
What people want from their leaders is love, equal treatment, fairness, honesty and integrity. People just want their leaders to provide the basic needs-like clean water, electricity, security, good roads, hospitals and enabling environment through policy making. People will be happy if their leaders can just show little care for them. If you are a leader understand that the people depend on you for their survival. Do not make life difficult for the people. Leaders should take their place in the society and lead the people instead of oppressing the people. In today’s world we have seen leaders become oppressors. We have seen leaders become rulers, dictators and killers. These sets of leaders have lost the trust of the people. People no longer trust their leaders.
Can we ever have leaders that the people want?
