The high need for clarity, innovations and continuous improvement as a leader will also be relevant for new start ups, entrepreneurs and all organisations expecting excellent and sustainable results.

Clarity:

All things should be clear. Your aims and objectives, vision and every milestone should be very clear. The use of simple words and communication techniques should be use to pass clear instructions, strategies, policies and procedures to boost understanding among the management and other functional team.

Start-ups and new businesses should invest more time in making sure that they achieve clarity in every aspect of the business or project before executing them. Studies have proven that nearly 95% of every new start ups and businesses fail within their first 5 years, which in my opinion lack of clarity contributes to the 98% part of the reasons why they fail. Lack of clarity is also responsible for project failures in most large organisations but unnoticeable.

Innovations:

Ideas and innovations are necessary for growth and development. Brainstorming and seeking for opportunities brings innovations. The search for new ways of doing things, solving problems and providing solutions to current and future challenges is the catalyst for innovations.

Setting up systems and new research can definitely ignite new ideas and technologies that may lead to emergence of sustainable solutions. Start-ups and new business should make it a priority to set up a reliable R&D unit/department to constantly engage and brainstorm for new ideas.

Continuous improvement:

Continuous improvement focus more on daily incremental improvement to your business operations, manufacturing or production processes, business procedures and strategies. Always looking out for ways to make it better. Looking at ways to improve the current processes, learning from current challenges and implementing methods and strategies to provide solutions. The very high need to standardise the process is the key to continuous improvement.

A lot of people feel that continuous improvement is for experts alone. I will say that you do not need to be an expert to carry out continuous improvement methodologies. Some of the skills can be learnt online as well.
